Penweddig secures a series sweep as Penglais showcases resilience in a vibrant evening of local rugby at the town club.
A fundraising event held at the local rugby club on Wednesday proved to be a tremendous success as students from Penglais and Penweddig schools took to the pitch. The evening brought the local community together in a strong show of support for local rugby teams.
The event was well-attended, featuring enthusiastic support from all corners of the community. Spectators created a buzzing atmosphere as they cheered on the talented young athletes across multiple age groups.
Performances throughout the night in the U13, U15, and U18 categories were described as excellent. Each match served as a showcase for the incredible talent and sportsmanship of the players representing both schools.
Despite a hard-fought effort from all the Penglais teams, Penweddig ultimately emerged victorious in all three of the night's fixtures. The series of matches highlighted the intense but respectful rivalry between the two secondary schools.
In the U13 encounter, Penweddig secured a 39-22 victory over their rivals. The Penglais side showed significant resilience during the match, battling hard until the final whistle.
The Penglais U13 team saw standout scoring performances from Cian, who crossed the try line twice. He was joined on the scoresheet by teammates Paddy and Wole, who each added a try to the team's tally.
The U15 match followed a similar pattern, with Penweddig claiming a 44-12 win. The Penglais players maintained their commitment on the field throughout the competitive fixture.
Scoring for the Penglais U15 side were Kemsi and Austin, who each managed to secure a try during the match. Their efforts were part of a wider team performance praised for its grit.
The U18 final fixture saw Penweddig complete their sweep with a 63-5 victory. Although the scoreline was one-sided, the Penglais senior players were commended for their dedication and effort.
Hari was the lone try scorer for the Penglais U18 team during the high-scoring game. His contribution was a highlight in a match that tested the stamina and skills of both squads.
While the results did not go in their favour, the Penglais teams can be proud of their effort and commitment. The evening was a memorable one that emphasized both the strength of the teams and the unity of the schools.
Sports Editor Dylan Halliday noted that the event was a significant community success. The night concluded with a sense of pride in the sportsmanship displayed by all the young athletes involved.
